Old School

Decades ago I was one of those people that people nowadays would call “war hero”. But now, our kind is more known as “war veterans”. I don’t know if I would get insulted or offended with the new name, but what the heck, I’m old anyway.

Most of my friends passed on already. What’s left for me are some of my friends and a growing family. I have quite a handful of immediate family, but the whole clan is growing faster than I can imagine. To be honest with it, I really have no idea of how many grandchildren I have already.

Last Christmas was the most gruesome experience I had in my lifetime. Those days were far worse than Vietnam. I planned to buy gifts for my friends and relatives. I don’t usually do it, but for some reason, decided to do it anyway.

Being a war veteran that I am, I saw to it that all my gifts had some sort of patriotic feel about them. I went to see the some American promotional items in one of the malls near where I live and had a hard time picking them. I never realized how much things cost now. Back in the day, we only made our own gifts for friends. Anyway…

I spent the whole day looking for those darn gifts. Good thing I still have the good old perseverance in me. I was able to buy American automotive promotional items for my lifelong friends and American promotional calendars for the young ones. Next year, if I still have the lungs to do it, I plan to give gifts to them again.
